Jeans to Shorts

DIY Shorts

This is my first DIY post, so I hope you like it.I have had some jeans for a long time and I just don't wear them because they don't fit how I would like them too. I had the idea of creating shorts, I had no idea if it would work as I'm not very creative person but I gave it a go.

First you will need:
  1. Old jeans
  2. Pencil
  3. Rule
  4. Safety pins
  5. Sewing scissors (or strong scissors)
  6. Pins
  7. Sewing machine or needed and thread

To start off you need to decide the look you want to go for, I choose to have folded edge shorts but you could go for a raw edge look.
Then you need to try your jeans on and work out the length you want them. Mark it with a safety pin on the side seam.

Once you have worked out the length you want your shorts get your rule and draw in pencil line about an inch or more below your safety pins on the front and back.

Next cut along the line, don't worry about how neat it is because we will be folding them over. Then you can try them on to check the length.

Next you need to get your pins and fold up the bottom to your desired length. Start pinning all the way round the top of the fold. Once you have finished pinning you can try them on again to recheck the length. Be careful of the pins.

Once you are happy with the folds you can start sewing. Pick out the thread colour you want and place it in the sewing machine or in the needle if you our hand sewing it. As you our sewing take out the pins as you go along.

Once you have finished sewing, you just need to neaten up the edges by tying the spear thread to stop it from fraying. You can also add other detail to your shorts to make them more personalised.

These are my completed shorts, I am really happy with how they turned out, if you want me to do anymore DIYs then just comment down bellow.

Thanks for reading

  4. Hello, fellow Hannah!

I did this a couple of years ago to procrastinate from tidying. I found a pair of Topshop jeans for £2 in a charity shop but the leg was about a foot too long for me and they were straight legged, which I hate. I just fold them up when I wear them though; I couldn't be bothered to stitch them.
